Palmetto Peloton Project "Stars and Stripes Challenge"
The Palmetto Peloton Project "Stars and Stripes Challenge" will once again be part of the festivities for the 2009 Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Professional Championships. The Palmetto Peloton Project exists to promote the advancement of cancer research and advocacy efforts locally, regionally and nationally through fund-raising fitness events.
STARS AND STRIPES CHALLENGE
SUNDAY, AUGUST 30, 2009
- This recreational bicycle ride takes place from 7:30 a.m. to Noon on Sunday, immediately before the USA Cycling Professional Road Race Championship. The start line is located at S. Main and Camperdown streets in West End section of downtown Greenville.
- Unique fundraising concept provides incentives for participants based on fundraising efforts.

- Standard entry fee is $50 per rider. The more funds you raise, the more prizes you receive
- An optional Family Fun Ride will begin at 10 a.m. in Falls Park. It is FREE for the entire family. One adult is required to ride with each family.

- Allows participants the opportunity to ride the same road race course as the pro cyclists, with an option to climb Paris Mountain
- Ride the 22-mile Road Race circuit as many times as you want until Noon.
- The Stars and Stripes Challenge is a recreational Ride – Not a race. Helmets are required.
- Proceeds benefit The Lance Armstrong Foundation and Greenville Hospital System Oncology Research Institute

About The Palmetto Peloton Project
The Palmetto Peloton Project exists to promote the advancement of cancer research and advocacy efforts locally, regionally and nationally through fund-raising fitness events.
- Through support from local businesses, and local and national cyclists, the Palmetto Peloton Project has raised over $400,000 for cancer research and advocacy since its inception in 2005.
- In 2008, The Palmetto Peloton Project presented $165,000 to the Oncology Research Institute of the Greenville Hospital System and the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
- P3's "Stars and Stripes Challenge" provides a unique ride atmosphere held in conjunction with the Greenville Hospital System USA PROFESSIONAL CYCLING CHAMPIONSHIPS
- P3 provides great incentives for participants to encourage fund-raising
- P3 will produce the 2nd Annual the Challenge to Conquer Cancer Relay Bike Ride from Greenville, SC to Austin, Tx in October 2009.
- In 2009, the goal of the Palmetto Peloton Project is to raise over $250,000 with the Stars and Stripes Challenge and the Challenge to Conquer Cancer. P3 is honored to support local cancer research by once again contributing a majority of the fund-raising efforts to the Greenville Hospital System Oncology Research Institute.
