Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Professional Championships 2009

2009 Championships Plans Announced With three consecutive years of strong crowds and community support, the Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Professional Championship will return to Greenville, S.C. for its celebrated weekend of racing and family events, August 29-30, 2009.

Palmetto Peloton Project "Stars and Stripes Challenge" The Palmetto Peloton Project "Stars and Stripes Challenge" will once again be part of the festivities for the 2009 Greenville Hospital System USA Cycling Professional Championships. The Palmetto Peloton Project exists to promote the advancement of cancer research and advocacy efforts locally, regionally and nationally through fund-raising fitness events.

Past National Time Trial Champions The USA Cycling Professional Time Trial National Championship was held for the first time in 2006. The USPRO ITT is now part of a dual championship for professionals with the Road Race, now hosted by Greenville, S.C. on Labor Day weekend. This "race against the clock" championship is open to any U.S. citizen on a UCI-registered trade team. In the past, professional riders were included in the USCF Elite Men's National Time Trial Championship event.

Past National Road Race Champions The USA Cycling Professional Road Race Championship, a one-day road race which began in 1985, was previously held in Philadelphia, Penn. The event was moved to Greenville, S.C. in 2006. That same year USA Cycling changed the rules for entry into the road race field for professionals.

A one-hour highlight program will be broadcast nationwide one week after the event by new broadcast partner, the Universal Sports Television Network.

On Saturday, Aug. 29, the Professional Time Trial Championship will return to the Clemson University International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR).

On Sunday, Aug. 30, the 110-mile Professional Road Race Championship will remain at the start/finish location from last year in the West End section of downtown Greenville.
